There are 2 things you can do:
1. If your ship's body has a surface name, Click on "Display", make sure
you're in "Polygon" selection mode, and then select "Stats". Search for
the surface name and make it the current surface. Then select the "+"
button to the left of "with Surface:".
2. If the ships body is a set of connected polygons that are not
connected to other object polygons, while in "Polygon" selection mode
select just one of the ships body polygons. Then select
"Display", then "Sel Conn". This will select all the polygons
that are connected to the poly you selected. If other objects
overlap the ship's body that doesn't mean their polys are connected.
